Let’s never Lose It

Bruce Lindsay (The Buttons & Bows Accordion & fiddle Club) will take you through the life, the music and the contribution of Scottish legend Sir Jimmy Shand.

Sir Jimmy Shand’s contribution to Scottish Music and Dance.  Jimmy Shand’s Band holds the unique distinction of being the ONLY Scottish Country Dance EVER to appear on “Top of The Pops”.  He holds numerous Gold and Sliver discs.  The Video clip below was made when Jimmy was 86 years old!

He played at Balmoral and at Windsor Castle and was awarded an MBE by Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II in 1962.  He appeared on “This is Your Life” with Eamonn Andrews in 1978,

In spite of all these achievements, his greatest achievement was to re-ignite interest and pride in the traditional country dance music of Scotland.  along with many other fine musicians and singers, Scottish Music has grown in stature and strength around the world.
