Katie Kavanagh, Brian and Evan Eiffe, Karl Parge and Holly Chilton from the Castletown Accordion Orchestra will form The roth House Quintet for A Special Open Air concert will take place in Rothe House Gardens on Saturday 13th August at 3p.m.
This special programme will be very appropriate to the setting. It is intended to be an open air concert but this is subject to weather conditions on the day, whereby the performance will take place in Rothe House itself.
Katie Kavanagh is a graduate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music having completed a B.A. in Music Performance and graduating with first class honours in 2014. In addition, Katie has been awarded diplomas in both teaching and music performance by the Royal Irish Academy of Music (ARIAM and LRIAM).
At nine years of age Katie began studying the accordion and throughout these formative years of musicianship she was accorded numerous Higher Achiever awards from the Royal Irish Academy of Music and performed at many gala concerts. Katie has been a recipient of many accordion related accolades including All Ireland and Northern Ireland Accordion titles. Her study of accordion continued into third level at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) initially under the tuition of Professor Patricia Kavanagh and later under Mr. Dermot Dunne.
During her music studies at the RIAM Katie was involved in a number of chamber music groups performing wide ranging repertoires including those from the contemporary genre and music by the legendary Argentinian composer and performer Astor Piazzolla. She achieved the distinction of achieving a semi-finalist placing in the prestigious Freemason’s Young Musician of the Year competition (2012) and together with her duet partner she was winner of the 2013 Leo Gibney Chamber Music Award. She has performed with the Royal Irish Academy of Music student-led ensemble ‘Kirkos’ premièring a range of new works by various composers.
Katie also teaches the accordion and has done so with the Royal Irish Academy of Music while also teaching piano and classical flute to private students. To advance her own mastering of the instrument, Katie has taken part in master classes given by Inaki Alberdi, Cory Pesaturo, the Cremona Quartet, Sarah Byram and others while also partaking in outreach education provided through the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Katie is currently undertaking a Professional Masters of Education (PMEd) at Maynooth University.
