The Buttons & Bows Accordion & Fiddle Club
The Buttons & Bows Group are based in the village of Windygates in Fife which lies approximately 15 miles west of St.Andrews. The village is the home of the only Button-key Accordion Club in Scotland which was voted the top Accordion & Fiddle Club in Scotland in 2009.
The club hosts an annual event which celebrates the sound of the Shand Morino Button-Key accordion made famous by Sir Jimmy Shand and welcomes players from all over Scotland and Ireland to perform at the show. The club has close links with the Dagersheim Harmonika Club and has hosted their German friends on several occasions.
The leader of the group Bruce Lindsay Snr and founder member of the above button-key club formed the Buttons & Bows Group in 2001 for accordion players who wished to learn to play the left hand or base side of the accordion.
It started off with 5 – 6 players and over the years the numbers have grown and now have over 30 enthusiastic players who regularly attend every Wednesday evening for sessions of music and chat.
This friendly and ever expanding group welcomes musicians of all ages and abilities and it’s players now includes button-key accordion, piano accordion, drummers, fiddlers, keyboard, mouth organ, double base and singer. Many players travel considerable distances to join in the fun of playing with the group who play both Scottish & Irish music as well as traditional sing-a-long selections.
The group enjoy playing at ceilidh’s, charity concerts, church festivals and at accordion and fiddle clubs where they have been enthusiastically received. In 2009 they played at the Irish Conker Championships celebrations in Freshford, Co. Kilkenny.
